Tips For Helping Children Move | Turner Maine Homes

Moving can be stressful for everyone in the family, but don’t forget to talk about it in advance with your children. Make sure to answer all their questions as honestly as possible. One way to help them in advance is to show them their new room, and help them decide where their furniture and belongings will go. For young children, read books such as “The Berenstain Bears: Moving Day” or “Who Will be My Friends?” by Syd Hoff. Help them sort, pack and label their belongings, and celebrate afterwards with a fun meal. Put together a Moving Day Kit, with essential items they might need. If you are moving to a new town or school district, make sure to help them say goodbye to their friends, and help them stay in touch if possible.

Homeowners: Protect Your Investment – Roof Snow Removal | Maine Waterfront Real Estate

Because it is usually your most valuable investment, I am hoping that you want to take care of your home. At this time of year, I like to send out a reminder about all the beautiful snow that may be stacked up on your rooftop. To remove this excess weight from the roof, and to prolong the life of their roof shingles, many people will use a roof rake to remove as much snow as possible. Aluminum rakes seem to be the best choice for do-it-yourself homeowners because they are lightweight and quite sturdy. For many people, I would recommend hiring a professional maintenance person to do this job for you, especially if you have a two or three-story home.  Also, this applies to seasonal or vacation properties Call me if you need the name of someone in our area to help you. 207-784-2525

The Origins of Veterans Day “TO HONOR VETERANS OF ALL WARS”

With the holiday approaching this week, we should all reflect and Thank those who served their county to protect all of our freedoms; especially those who live with life disabilities. This Thursday is not just another day off to sleep in or an opportunity to go shopping or hunting. If you know a Vet, tell them “Thanks”.  Below is the history of Veteran’s Day. Enjoy

Raymond Weeks of Birmingham, Alabama, organized a Veterans Day parade for that city on November 11, 1947, to honor all of America’s Veterans for their loyal service. Later, U.S. Representative Edward H. Rees of Kansas proposed legislation changing the name of Armistice Day to Veterans Day to honor all who have served in America’s Armed Forces.
In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill proclaiming November 11th as Veterans Day and called upon Americans everywhere to rededicate themselves to the cause of peace. He issued a Presidential Order directing the head of the Veterans Administration, now the Department of Veterans Affairs, to form a Veterans Day National Committee to organize and oversee the national observance of Veterans Day. In addition to fulfilling that mission, the committee oversees the annual production and distribution of the annual Veterans Day poster and this Teacher Resource Guide.
In 1968, Congress moved Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in October. However, it became apparent that the November 11th date was historically significant to a great many Americans. As a result, Congress formally returned the observance of Veterans Day to its traditional date in 1978.
The Veterans Day National Ceremony is held each year on November 11th at Arlington National Cemetery. At 11 a.m., a color guard, made up of members from each of the military services, renders honors to America’s war dead during a tradition-rich ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns.
The President or his representative places a wreath at the Tomb and a bugler sounds “Taps.” The balance of the ceremony, including a “Parade of Flags” by numerous Veterans service organizations, takes place inside the Memorial Amphitheater, adjacent to the Tomb.
In addition to planning and coordinating the National Veterans Day Ceremony, the Veterans Day National Committee supports a number of Veterans Day Regional Sites. These sites conduct Veterans Day celebrations that provide excellent examples for other communities to follow. For a listing of these sites, please visit: www.va.gov/opa/vetsday/regsites.asp.

Personal Branding in Real Estate

I made a commitment in 2010 to help by clients get to know who I am and why I do what I do for a living.  Like many top real estate agents, the tools and systems are similiar.  So how does someone choose their agent?  I think they do it by evaulating your skills and experience and who you are as a person.  People want to do business with people they like.  As a result I’ve spent months creating a personal brochure that will hopefully help prospective clients get to know me better…i just hope they like me!

Mortgage Affiliations

The real esate business has always been about relationships.  Great relationships with clients and great relationships with service providers agents use to service their clients.  Meservier & Associates at Keller Williams Mid Maine offers exclusive mortgage relationships with Approved Home Mortgage and Reliant Mortgage.  These personal relationships with these lenders enhance our ability to serve our clients at a much higher level.  We’re continuing to expand these opportunities too!
